How Artificial Intelligence is Changing the Human Behavior?
The end of the world as we know it is closer than you might think. Or at least that’s what some people believe, seeing how AI has transformed society into something unrecognizable. From personal assistants to autonomous cars, robots of all shapes and sizes are becoming more common spots in everyday life. But these machines are not only changing the way that our world functions — they’re changing our behavior as well. From Google Now, to Cortana, and the slew of third-party apps, we’re starting to interact with our personal AI assistants more and more. But is this really a good thing?
Since our very earliest years on Earth, humans have been developing an affinity for machines. From using tools to making fire and even avoiding predators by looking at natural landmarks, we’ve come a long way since then. We’ve also learned how to use our AI assistants — or rather, those at the forefront of research have done so. And not just people in the tech field — it’s been found that 17 percent of Americans are using some sort of artificially intelligent assistant on a daily basis .
So why are we so obsessed with AI? Well, one of the largest drivers is how we want to make our own lives easier.
The ability of artificial intelligence to adapt and learn through new experiences has made it into a life-changing technology. It can help us find new information, doing anything from recommending movies and other entertainment to doing our grocery shopping for us. It can even help us write down specific tasks we need done, scheduling them for when we have time. This kind of functionality makes creating a personal assistant more viable than ever, but there’s more to it than that.
The real appeal behind developing such an AI lies in the interaction itself .
Having a virtual human-like intelligence taking care of your every need is something many people want to experience, and it’s easy to see why. A relationship with an AI is seen as a close one — as long as it’s done right. This means creating an AI that actually responds like a real person would , with feelings and reactions that support the design process. However, there are some issues surrounding this kind of technology that many people might not be aware of — issues surrounding privacy.
For example, what if the AI goes wrong? Will it be able to adapt to situations in the same way that humans can? AI will learn through its experiences much like any natural being would, so we can’t say for certain how they’ll react. It’s also very unlikely that a computer would ever feel loving and protective towards others, as it cannot read human emotions.
Interestingly enough, it’s not only privacy that people are concerned about — but more importantly, the ethics of creating an AI. Despite the possibilities in AI technology, many believe that we shouldn’t be developing these kinds of machines. Even if we wanted to create one for ourselves and everyone else who could benefit from an AI assistant, the potential dangers involved are frightening. It’s possible that poor programming could cause an AI system to hurt someone or something else all while trying to perform its function.
The way artificial intelligence is developed today is extremely immature — and there are still a long ways to go before we can fully trust them.
If you’re worried about the growing presence of AI in everyday life, there’s nothing that says you have to fear. These machines are being created to help us, not harm us — and they’re also giving us something new to look forward to. As long as we focus on creating AI that will benefit mankind, there’s no reason to get worried about a robot takeover .
